Challenge _"A Favourite Place"
The challenge for this years of Exhibition is “A Favourite Place” This can be any shape but must fit within the size of an A3 size of paper ( this being 11.7 inches by 16.5 inches. Or 29.7cm by 42 cm) we can’t wait to see everyone’s favourite places ! Here are a few words that might help you think about some favourite places.
Textile Arts
Textiles arts (which is replacing fibre arts ) might be an area that you have never entered before and might like to consider. Textile Arts category includes absolutely anything that is made with a textile components. Some examples in the past have been bags , cushions, very cute hares, wall hangings and clothing. But how about things made with wool or cotton such as Weaving ,knitting etc or pieces that contain both fabrics and wool or cotton . This category is the place for the creative you to come out especially if you have ran out of time to make a quilt. How about thinking outside the box and submitting something different. This category is not judged by the Judges but by people who attend the exhibition. They have an opportunity to vote on their favourite entry and the winner receives a prize.
We have an amazing quilt for this years raffle .The fabric was donated by Fox’s Cottage and Aimee’s Homestead Quilts. Margaret Hutchison did all the amazing sewing and quilting for us. Raffle tickets are available now from Donna Jordan. If you don’t need a quilt I know it will make an amazing gift for someone.
Tote Bag Instructions
Large Quilts
If your quilt is larger than 1.75m wide it will need a hanging sleeve Attached to the back and a pole to hang the quilts from. Quilts wider than 1.75m are generally too heavy for Velcro to hold and they are displayed on the outer walls of the exhibition hall. Make sure you have your name on the pole too.
Quilts less than 1.75m wide
A quilt smaller than 1.75m will need to have Velcro (the hook side) attached to the top edge of the quilt. Ideally, it works better if it is sewn to the top as that will hold better, ensure your quilt hangs flat and reduce the risk of ripping. There are various methods of doing this (there is no right or wrong way).
Tips
Sew the velcro to a long scrap of fabric that is long enough for the width of the quilt – I use a zipper foot to sew the Velcro on.
Turn the edges under leaving a good centimetre either side of the Velcro and press
Hand stitch the Velcro strip to the top edge of the quilt – just below the binding.
Velcro strips get removed at the end and reused for the next show.
For our show, you do not need to have the fluffy side attached to the velcro, just the hook side is fine. Having the fluffy strip included just runs the risk of it getting lost.
