Show & Tell Archive

Members are encouraged to bring their completed quilts (or even those under construction) and items from classes to share with others at the day and night meetings.  This is a great chance to get new ideas or to find out about techniques used by asking the quilter questions about the construction.

Lockdown 2021 Virtual Show & Tell - August/September

See also some of the block of the month work being done here.

Jill has completed her quilt using the block of the month with applique added to give effect.  This will be for her niece's baby due in February.

Nicola Moore has been doing all sorts during lockdown including some wet felting, busy book pages and knitting, fabric postcards and a small picture quilt.  She has sent me photos of these three:

Monogrammed cushion covers, Jenny Hunters Mod quilt (kit) with adaptions and Sewing machine wrap cover.  That last has me interested so will look forward to this coming along to a meeting and being able to check it out in detail.  Could be a great scrap buster project and so useful.  It has a non slip pad on the bottom and those pockets would be great for small scissors, quick unpick, threads etc.

Michelle Meads finished her "I’m a Farmers Daughter" quilt (Jen Kingwell) and added some sashing to break up the blocks a bit. She has gifted it to a friend so won’t have it for show and tell.

She also finished her first BYAnnie bag which is Bowl me Over - Michelle will bring it to our next evening meeting.

Ronnie Rutter has made this stunning quilt and will be donating it to Community Quilts.  Real Ronnie colours.

Kay Mills has made a memory quilt for a friend’s 75th birthday- no prizes for guessing the province he supports!!

She has also tried out a spinning star pattern she saw on Facebook - lots of issues & unpicking apparently meaning some of the seams are fairly fragile! She is hoping it will be better on the second attempt (if she has one 🤣🤣)

Jane McNamara has been adding to her flock of Liberated Birds

At the start of lockdown Barbara Parker was sorting old linen and found a sheet over 40years old - half cotton and polyester. She looked in her old NZ Quilter magazines and in number 84 found the Ring O Roses pattern by Sarah De Renzy.

She used a limited range of colours and did not buy any new fabric.

The small blocks are the opposite of the quilt she made in the last lockdown.

Anne-Marie has been working on Ebba the Seahorse by Laura Hines.  She started this quilt when we went into lock down.  It took her 3 days to finish cutting out the flowers and  placing them on the background. She has run out of Steam a Seam but still has to put in lilies and reeds at the sides.

Margaret Atkins recently completed this quilt for her son in Canada and managed to get it in the post to him just before lockdown! It’s theme is  a stain glass window centre and a touch of NZ around the sides.  he blue is the backing.  She says "It’s not perfect but each one I do I learn more."  That's what we should all be aiming for.
